During the third class we were talking about dating vocabulary; below you'll find all the words and important expressions written on the board.
To date/to go on a date- tener una cita
Ex. Today I go on a date with Jim.
Steady boyfriend/girlfriend- Novio estable
Ex. Anna has a steady boyfriend, they have been together for 3 years.
A blind date- cita a ciegas
Ex. My sister organized me a blind date with her tennis coach..
To arrange/ To set up a date-preparar u organizar una cita
Ex.My sister arranged a date with her tennis coach
Love at first sight-amor a primera vista
Ex. When I met my husband, it was love at first sight.
Fall in love- enamorarse;
To fall out of love- “desenamorarse”
Commitment- compromiso; Lack of commitment-falta de compromiso
Ex. I fell out of love because my boyfriend had a lack of commitment.
My treat- “pago yo la cuenta” OR: It's on me
To go Dutch- pagar a medias
Speed dating- citas rápidas
Ex. In our last English class we did a speed dating experiment;it was so interesting.
To break the ice- “romper el hielo”
Ex.In order to break the ice, I asked him about his job.
To mean business- Ir al grano
Ex. In a speed dating event, you have to mean business.
To get hooked on someone/something- estar “colgado” de alguien/algo... ser adicto a...
Ex.She is getting hooked on her best friend.
To cheat on someone- engañar a alguien
Unfaithful- infiel
Ex.He is divorced because his wife cheated on him.
Stand somebody up- dejar plantado
Ex. Mary stood me up last night in the restaurant.
Stand by- dar apoyo a alguien
Ex. Please stand by me.
